Casa Asturiana, Sydney

Casa Asturiana

How was it?
Food: 7.5/10
Service: 7/10
Ambience: 8/10
Value: $$$

On a busy thursday night, K and I were in search of some Spanish paella. We initially tried to go to The Spanish Club (they're tomato & olive bread is amazing, so is their paella), but their dining area was closed. [Fail no.1]. Next, we attempted to get a table at Encasa, but as expected they were fully booked and we'd have to wait for close to 2hours. [Fail no. 2]. So we walked back to Liverpool St, and saw Casa Asturiana and thought we'd give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised by the cute decor and the quality of the seafood.

Sangria 1/2Lt $11.00

Sweet and tasty! Makes everyone happy :)

Complementary bread

Tortilla Espanola $9.50
(Spanish omelette - potatoes, onions and eggs)

Spanish Bread $5.00
(Crusty bread topped with tomato coulis)

Seafood Soup $14.50
(Prawns, calamari, mussels, baby clams, fish fillets, cooked with tomato salsa and cream)

Seafood Paella $49.00
(Prawns, calamari, baby clams, fish fillets)

The best dish of the night was the seafood soup. It was creamy and hearty. The Spanish bread was great for dipping with the soup. The seafood paella tasted a little bit overcooked, a little bit mushy, but the fresh seafood made up for it. They were very generous with the seafood in both dishes.

The Pros:
- Seafood soup = highly recommended
- Not rowdy & noisy like some Spanish restaurants - perfect date place

The Cons:
- Service was hit/miss (we had to request for bread & water a few times)
- The paella was a little bit too mushy for my liking

Another great Spanish find in the city. I don't think I'd reorder the paella, but the seafood here was very fresh. I will definitely go back for the seafood soup. We were scraping the bottom of the bowl to get every last drop :)

Cute ornaments at the entrance

p.s. Whilst we were dining, I saw a guy walk in with a huge camera. Perhaps a food blogger? I wanted to ask... but I didn't. That would've been a bit random.
