Gia Hoi, Canley Heights

How was it?
Food: 7.5/10
Service: 6/10
Ambience: 6/10
Value: $

Whenever D* or I suggest going to Canley Heights for lunch, we mean 'let's go to Gia Hoi Vietnamese restaurant for their famous/special noodle soup - bun bo hue'.

Iced Coffee $3.00

Nothing beats the Vietnamese version of iced coffee, where 1/4 of the glass is filled with condensed milk, making it very sweet!

Pile of veges - lettuce, cabbage, beansprouts, lemon

Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet $10.00
Special Pork & Beef with Rice Vermicelli Soup (Hot & Spicy)
Mmm... Hot & Spicy

Slippery noodles

Bun bo hue is so perfect for the winter months. It's a whole lot of comfort in one huge bowl. The servings are massive, and we probably could have shared one and still had leftovers! I love this soup because not only is it very flavoursome and chilli, but it doesn't feel too heavy in the stomach afterwards.

The service here was typical of a Vietnamese diner - fast and efficient. We were chatting away for a couple of hours, without even realising it, until we started to get looks, and we thought we'd better leave! But it had been a couple of hours, so fair enough!

Overall:
A cheap and cheerful eatery, that's worth travelling for (they've opened a new restaurant in the City - so much more convenient for all you city folk). I almost always get the bun bo hue noodles, but they also have many other great dishes on the menu. Definitely a popular eatery with the locals and definitely worth a try.

  7. This place is a relative new comer to the Canley Heights strip, they use to be mega packed when they had 20% opening special which killed off the competition next door!

Hi Howard: Really? I didn't realise they were new! My friend lives in the area, we've been been going to this place for a few years now. There's actually quite a few good restaurants on that strip aye?!

  9. Yep, I actually goto the one a bit further down called Diem Hien. It's the same type of food, but each restaurant differs in their recipes I guess!
