The Falconer, Darlinghurst

How was it?
Food: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Value: $$

Plan A was for Carrie and I to take Miss V to Longrain for her birthday, but we had to see a show and couldn't afford to wait for 2hours. Which brings us to Plan B. We walked up to Oxford St, and found The Falconer. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but inside you are transported into a lovely dining room, almost feeling like you've stepped into another time or place complete with little comfy booths! It has a very Melbournian feel - very relaxed, cool and a little bit retro.

Risoni with Sauteed Mushrooms, Lemon, Thyme and White Truffle Oil $14.00

We were in a bit of a rush, so we decided to order one main each. Miss V's risoni was delicious. The risoni was pillowy soft, the mushrooms added some depth and texture, and unlike some rissoto's, this was light yet comforting at the same time.

Fish of the day - Barramundi

Fish of the day - Barramundi

Carrie ordered the fish of the day, which happened to be barramundi. It came lying on a bed of vegetables, which were lovely and tangy. The barramundi itself was cooked until perfectly tender and juicy.

Linguini with Grilled Zucchini, Chilli, Garlic and Bortaga $17.00

Linguini with Grilled Zucchini, Chilli, Garlic and Bortaga $17.00

I ordered the linguini, which was a slight disappointment compared to the two others. I felt as though the flavours hadn't all mixed together quite well and it tasted quite bland. The linguini pasta itself was nice and al-dente though, if only it had a little bit more flavour.

Overall:
A great little restaurant on Oxford St. The servings were generous and the waitstaff were all very lovely and helpful. A great location and reasonable prices make The Falconer a winner, despite my lacklustre meal, the other two were delicious and I would give them another go!

  1. Oh poo, how disappointing that your dish is the let down, especially as you didn't do entrees or desserts! This is especially annoying when you are tossing up between a few choices. Hopefully next time your meal will be perfect and your friends' will be lacklustre. Hehe..

  2. My my ... that risoni does look very tasty. Shame about your dish though, that sucks when that happens. Shall we call it "order envy"? hehe...

    Thanks for the review!

  3. Oh wow, two posts on the Falconer around the same time.

Prices don't seem to bad considering it's city food.

  4. Hehe I like how you described it as Melbournian, totally got what you meant just from you saying that! Pity about your bland pasta :( The risoni looks pretty good though!

  5. Eh, you win some you lose some. At least some of the other dishes were ok. Funny how value sometimes makes you turn a blind eye to a few mistakes every now and then (well, it does for me at least).

  8. Hi Conor: I know! :( Hehe evil! I like.

Hi Ladybird: It was! Yes, there was definitely a bit of that! No probs :)

Hi Simon: Yeah, I was surprised to see how reasonable it was!

Hi Steph: Woohoo! Yeah, it was a bit of a shame, but the risoni was really good!

Hi Forager: Yep, it totally does for me. If I had to pay more for that meal I wouldn't have been very happy, but because it was pretty reasonable, I wasn't too fussed. Hehe.

Hi Ellie: I know, but it happens all the time! Ahh.. yep, the other were good!

Hi Jacq: It was, definitely something worth trying! Yeah, maybe they weren't having a good linguini night that night!
